Yes, I would like to join the Royal Marines Association. I am from Plymouth and my father, James Paterson, was (I believe) in 42 Commando around 1965. I would like to know how to trace his service details more accurately. Thank you. Nick Alexander. |

My Dad, Archie Herron was in the Royal Marine from 1936 to 1946, he sailed on several ships, his favourite being the Royal Sovereign, or the ‘Tiddly Quid’ as he referred to it. He died in 2003 aged 83, but always had fond memories of his time with the Royal Marines. I have his medals and have just applied for the latest medal; The Arctic Star. Can anyone advise where I can obtain a copy of his service record, I don’t have his service number, but have full date of birth etc. I can be emailed at: essgeetrading@yahoo.co.uk. Many thanks, |

Re: message 331 In answer to Mr Frank Case – no, I was not aware of this at all but would love a scan of the picture if that would not be too much trouble. My email address is: l.e.packwood@utwente.nl Could you tell me where the recording was made? My brother remembers Dad telling him about it and wrote: “Father’s selection was “Heart of Oak” which Mr D referred to as “Hearts of Oak” and was duly corrected by Father (Not like him surely!).” And, thank you very much for the information, Sir! |

I was interested to see Guestbook Entry N277 dated 9 Jan 13 by Geoff Brammer seeking news of Alex Dick of 788 squad with which I cannot help. I do however keep in touch with Geoff Taylor and John Moxey. By coincidence only last week Geoff and I met John, the first time in 49 years, when he was over on a visit from South Australia. Geoff it would be nice if you could contact me – I have often wondered how you and Ron are doing and indeed the rest of 788 Squad. |

I am seeking any service history regarding my late father John Barron, known to his friends as “Jim”. He loved his time in the marines, joined in 1947 and was discharged in Plymouth in 1972. Served in Singapore in the early 60′s and again 1967-1969. His military number was RM 19736, was stationed at Simbang where I spent my childhood. Jim Barron passed away on February 5th 2005 in Lincoln where he lived for 17 years. Any information greatly appreciated. Thankyou. |
